West of Dead

In a supernatural version of Purgatory, Wyoming, William Mason—a dead gunslinger who remembers a figure in black—sets out through a shifting underworld. The story unfolds through narration and encounters as he searches for answers about his past.

Fight room by room in a twin-stick shooter that combines aiming and firing with tactical cover. Dodge between shelters, use guns and special abilities, and manage reloads; lighting lamps can reveal enemies hidden in darkness and stun them.

Procedurally generated routes make each run different. Death sends Mason back to start another run, while runes, weapon and ability unlocks, and other upgrades expand the options available across attempts.

In the supplied reviews, players often praise the striking visual style and dark Western atmosphere, along with tactical cover-based gunfights and satisfying shooting. Ron Perlman’s narration and the music also stand out for many. Some reviewers, however, find the controls awkward, runs repetitive or drawn out, and the roguelite progression limited.
