After Eve is infected by mutant parasites, Jason takes her into space aboard the G-SOPHIA, bound for her home planet in search of a cure. Along the way, they meet other Metal Attacker pilots and their support droids.
Play through side-scrolling stages in the G-SOPHIA, navigating terrain and fighting enemies, then explore top-down areas on foot as Jason. The adventure alternates between tank and on-foot action, with planets and smaller locations to investigate.
Find upgrades and use weapons and abilities in combat. The G-SOPHIA's Gaia System converts energy from impacts into SP for its weapons and functions, while Jason's Blast Counter lets him counter enemies as they attack.
Many supplied reviewers praise the sequel's varied planet environments, exploration, and level design, along with improvements to tank movement and on-foot combat. The counter system, boss encounters, story and characters, pixel art, and music also receive positive mentions. Some reviewers find sections challenging or frustrating, criticize boss refights or the final stretch, and prefer the more interconnected exploration of the first game.
