You play as a musher starting a new life in Alaska and traveling through the wilderness with a sled team. Choose four dogs for the team, each with a distinct personality and story, and try to reach a cabin that represents your new home.
Each run follows a trail with route choices at forks and encounters with wildlife and other points of interest. Decide how to respond, hunt for food, and manage supplies such as bullets, fire-starting materials, and medical kits. At camp, you can feed and care for yourself and your dogs, then rest before continuing.
When a run ends, you can carry lessons, resources, or found tools into later attempts, making the journey easier to prepare for. Dog stories and equipment unlock over time; after reaching the cabin, you can continue exploring, train and adopt dogs, and unlock a mode where the sled team runs without the usual journey decisions.
Players who enjoy the game often single out the dogs’ distinct personalities and stories, the snowy Alaskan scenery, and the calm, atmospheric feel of traveling with the team. Voice acting and music also earn recurring praise, as does learning from failed runs and gradually building bonds with the dogs. Other reviewers find the limited direct control and repeated events make the experience feel short or monotonous.
