In a distant future threatened by disease and monsters, you play a young man determined to save his sick sister, Yonah. He leaves his village with Grimoire Weiss, a talking book, to search for the Sealed Verses.
Travel between settlements and dangerous areas, take on quests, and battle groups of enemies and bosses. Combat combines swordplay, dodges and parries with magic, while different weapon types offer options for close-range attacks.
Collect and strengthen weapons, and equip Words to customize weapons, skills, and magic. The story unfolds over multiple endings: later runs revisit parts of the journey and add scenes and perspectives.
Players often praise the emotional story, memorable cast, and soundtrack, describing how these elements make the journey linger after the credits. Opinions differ on the repeated runs: some enjoy how new scenes reshape the story, while many find replaying sections and completing errands tedious.
