You guide the Pupils, a nomadic tribe, on a journey toward the center of the world known as the Eye. A flood follows behind them, so the tribe must keep moving and survive each stop along the route.
At temporary camps, assign Pupils to gather resources, grow food, build structures, craft supplies, explore the map, and conduct research. Each stop has limited time, making it important to balance immediate survival with preparing for the next leg of the journey.
Pupils develop skills through their work, while buildings can be improved and the tribe can gain knowledge. Before moving on, choose what resources and structures to carry in the caravan. Procedural journeys, events, tribes, and regions add variation, with campaign and custom play options.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its gentle visuals and atmosphere, its unusual nomadic take on city-building, and the careful resource planning involved in each run. Some find that planning satisfying when a journey comes together, while others say the steep difficulty and random setbacks can make progress feel unfair.
