When a mysterious thief steals Bum-bo’s only coin and takes it into the sewer, Bum-bo ventures underground to face enemies and search for the culprit. The world and its characters are presented in a handmade cardboard style.
Combat is turn-based and built around a tile-matching board. Matching four or more tiles generates resources that can be used for spells and other abilities, letting players attack, defend, and alter the board while enemies take their turns.
Runs combine randomized encounters with items, trinkets, and spells that can be upgraded or combined. Multiple playable versions of Bum-bo have distinct abilities, and completing runs can unlock further content.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its distinctive cardboard presentation and the strategic satisfaction of shaping the board, managing resources, and pulling off spell combos. Some also like the different characters and soundtrack. Reviews are mixed: recurring complaints focus on bugs affecting play and progression, while luck-driven encounters and unclear mechanics frustrate some players.
