We Love It's Guide to…

Sea of Thieves: 2026 Edition

You play as a pirate sailing a shared open world, alone or with a crew. There are no fixed ship roles, so players can divide tasks like steering, adjusting sails, repairing damage, and operating cannons. Voyages can lead to buried treasure, island riddles, cargo deliveries, fishing, sunken sites, and story quests. Crews also face skeletons, sea creatures, world events, and other players, with the possibility of losing gathered loot before selling it at an outpost. Completing voyages and selling loot builds reputation with Trading Companies, while rewards let you customize your pirate and ship. Progression centers on reputation and cosmetic unlocks rather than stronger weapons or ship stats; seasonal levels and events offer additional rewards and activities.

Sail solo or with a crew, hunt treasure, battle sea threats and rival pirates, and shape each voyage in an open world.
