Severed Steel is a single-player first-person shooter starring Steel, a nimble, one-armed sharpshooter fighting the forces of the EdenSys corporation across a series of levels.
Combat centers on staying in motion: run along walls, slide, dive, flip, kick enemies, and use bullet time to dodge fire and line up shots. Weapons have no reloads, so when one runs dry, you can throw it and take another from an enemy. Destructible environments let you blast openings through walls and change your route through a level.
The campaign spans six story chapters, with New Game+ changing up its encounters. Rogue Steel offers a short, randomly generated campaign, while Firefight challenges players to chase scores and times across levels. Sub-challenges, unlockable mutators, adjustable settings, and a level editor with Steam Workshop support provide additional ways to play.
Reviewers often enjoy the fast, acrobatic combat, especially combining wall runs, slides, and dives with bullet time to create dramatic firefights. The soundtrack is another recurring highlight, and some players praise the extra modes and challenges for offering reasons to replay. Others find the campaign short, the story sparse, or the encounters repetitive; a smaller number report that the movement feels imprecise or chaotic.
