Mud and Blood is a World War II real-time tactics game in which you command a small Allied squad against German forces. Battles center on managing vulnerable soldiers rather than controlling a single heroic fighter.
Position troops around cover, coordinate their battlefield roles, and adapt as enemy attacks and battlefield conditions shift. You can build defenses such as trenches, bunkers, and pillboxes, and use support options to help hold or assault a position.
Choose between modes including a campaign that begins on D-Day and advances across Europe, and trench warfare focused on building defenses and leading assaults. Campaign progress brings new challenges, while soldiers can gain experience and you can earn stars and ribbons.
Reviewers often praise the tense squad tactics, unpredictable battles, and the satisfaction of surviving difficult encounters; returning players also value the connection to the earlier Flash games. Opinions are divided on the harsh randomness: some see it as central to the experience, while others find it unfair and frustrating. Criticism also recurs around the interface and controls, and some players say campaign losses or difficulty make progress feel punishing.
The cult classic flash game is back with its own new engine, an evolved AI and a ton of new features.

No Mercy, Just Mud and Blood
This is not a game for the faint of heart. It’s raw, unfair, and brutally honest—just like war itself.
Step forward, Commander, and see if you have what it takes to endure the Mud and Blood.
Mud and Blood was, for the most part, created in an unlikely place: an outpost somewhere between Kandahar and Panjway, Afghanistan. Initially developed as a flash game by urb in between missions on a beat-up laptop, it became a way to decompress from the chaos. Ironically, a game about brutal, unforgiving war was itself forged in the heart of a conflict. What began as a personal project has since evolved into a cult classic, beloved by a fiercely loyal community for over 16 years.
At its core, Mud and Blood embraces a unique philosophy: challenge, not comfort. The gameplay is punishingly difficult, but it respects your tactical sense and cognitive ability. It doesn’t drip-feed you success to keep you engaged. Every decision matters, every mistake is costly, and every victory is hard-earned. This is a game that trusts its players to make tough calls on the fly, think critically, and persevere through chaos and loss.
In Mud and Blood, war is not heroic. It’s messy, unpredictable, and brutal. Yet amidst the carnage, there’s a raw beauty in the stories that emerge—a narrative forged by the player, much like the Dwarf Fortress of combat. Your experience becomes your own war story: a tale of triumph against an unrelenting enemy and the quiet pride of knowing you gave it everything you had.
Crafted with love, a touch of PTSD, and a deep respect for its community, Mud and Blood is a humble tribute to those who dare to face the impossible.
