You play as a Groundbreaker on Calyx, an alien world whose underground expedition has gone wrong. As you explore its caves and facilities, you encounter clues to what happened and communicate with cubic companions.
Mine ore, gather materials, and process them through specialized machines. Build conveyor belts and inserters to connect production lines, and expand your factory by carving space out of the surrounding terrain.
Explore for artifacts, resources, and technologies that unlock equipment and upgrades. Research, production goals, and campaign tasks advance your capabilities; the game can be played solo or in co-op for up to four players.
Some players enjoy building and optimizing underground factories, and praise the distinctive setting, visuals, and story-led exploration. Reviews also highlight interesting automation and progression ideas. Recurring criticisms include performance problems, especially later in play and in co-op, bugs, unclear recipes or progression, and a late game that many describe as grind-heavy; many reviewers also express disappointment about development stopping.
Welcome to the strangely beautiful, bioluminescent, and mysterious sub-surface alien world of Techtonica. You’ll begin with only the basics for digging, mining, and resource production.
