Players investigate a mansion where some take killer roles while others try to discover who is responsible. Guests gather clues and complete tasks as they work to survive.
Communication is central: players can discuss evidence in meetings using built-in voice chat, or deceive others to protect a killer's identity. Special roles and modes change the rules, including a vigilante who can hunt the killer and a spy who can copy another player's appearance.
Across eight modes, players can also hide from killers, face off in three-team battles, or try other rule variations. Custom lobbies let friends choose modes, while matchmaking offers leaderboard competition; the game also has cross-platform play and progression with Android and iOS.
