Set in Edo, Fate/Samurai Remnant follows Miyamoto Iori and Saber as they become involved in the Waxing Moon Ritual, a contest in which Masters and their Heroic Spirit Servants pursue a wish. The story follows their encounters with rival pairs and other Servants.
Travel through Edo districts, investigate events, take on side activities, talk with townspeople, and meet other Masters and Servants. The city also offers quieter diversions, including stopping at food stalls and interacting with cats and dogs.
Combat combines Iori's swordplay and magic with Servant abilities. Use different attack styles, work with Saber, and, after forming bonds with Rogue Servants, fight alongside or directly control them. Skill progression, territory-focused encounters, and branching routes with multiple endings shape the journey.

Players who enjoyed the game often praised its story and character relationships, its Fate-world callbacks and familiar characters, and its music and dramatic Servant battles. Some also liked exploring Edo and the smaller character interactions.
