Withering Rooms

You play as Nightingale, a young woman trapped in a dreamlike nightmare connected to a Victorian asylum. Explore Mostyn House and its surrounding grounds as you uncover the place’s secrets and meet characters with their own agendas.

Each night brings a procedurally generated mansion to explore. Search rooms and hidden passages for weapons, equipment, magical items and crafting materials; solve puzzles; and choose whether to hide from monsters, distract them or fight.

Build Nightingale around melee, ranged weapons or magic, adapting your equipment and tactics to different threats. Death can cost you unpreserved items, while rituals can protect selected gear and permanent upgrades carry progression forward. Using magic also raises your curse, changing the environment and potentially revealing new paths.

Players frequently praise the eerie Victorian world, atmosphere, story and music, as well as the secrets and exploration that encourage them to keep investigating. Many also enjoy experimenting with different equipment and combat builds, and describe progression as rewarding. Combat and controls are often called clunky, and some players find the early difficulty and item loss on death frustrating.
