A brutal murder in Asbury Pines opens a mystery that unfolds through the town’s residents across twelve eras, from the late Stone Age to the distant future. You oversee the town as its people, plants, and animals appear in different periods and contribute to its history.
Assign characters to gather resources, work at locations, explore nature, analyze artifacts, or advance their lives. These activities generate resources and experience that unlock story fragments, new characters, places, and further progression.
Build production chains and connect economies across eras, with some resources flowing from earlier periods into later ones. Science, government, and religion research offer upgrades, while idle and offline progression let tasks continue between sessions.
In this supplied review sample, players who enjoyed Asbury Pines often praised its unusual blend of idle resource management and a mystery revealed through short stories, and liked discovering how characters and events connect across eras. Writing, worldbuilding, and character moments were recurring highlights. Opinions were more divided on the management loop’s depth and the story’s resolution; frequent criticisms included slow waits, cumbersome menus, and late-game progression bottlenecks.
“Godforsaken. No other word for it. A murder so brutal it made the whole town of Asbury Pines look itself in the mirror. We work, we raise kids, we do our best, we let time run its course, and then we’re still left scratchin’ our heads. Why did this evil have to happen?”
- Rodney “Buzz” Snow, Sheriff of Asbury Pines
