RUBATO, an experimental, 2D physics-based take on the collect-a-thon genre!
Developed by dconn · Published by dconn

After the solar system is destroyed, you play as Rubato, a frog on a mission to help put it back together. The adventure begins with a goofy, strange cast and a lighthearted tone, then mixes in more serious story moments without giving away where they lead.
Explore five compact, densely packed areas by running, jumping, and using Rubato’s tongue on enemies and objects. Physics-driven interactions help you move through the world, while collecting Planet Bits advances your effort to repair the solar system.
Search for secrets and shortcuts, and take on challenge rooms built around different ideas and mechanics. New abilities arrive as the story progresses, giving you reasons to revisit areas and look for collectibles you missed.
Many reviewers enjoy RUBATO’s unusual mix of physics-based platforming, collectathon exploration, eccentric humor, and a story that can turn unexpectedly heartfelt or serious. They also often praise its distinctive visuals and soundtrack. Reactions to the comedy and tonal shifts are mixed, and some reviewers find the story sections or collectible hunts drag on.

The year is 12,012. Multiquadrillionaire monopoly "GSSAI CO." has been in power of the universe for centuries after a world-ending bioweapon was unleashed onto the masses. And now? The solar system has been destroyed by unknown celestial forces. A weapons development program run by the Earth subsidiary of "GSSAI CO." is fast progressing. And the world's denizens are disappearing.
That is until one man screws up a game of pool.
Use your tongue to lick enemies and objects as you make your way through open metroidvania-like areas, whilst collecting "Planet Bits" to help fix the solar system!
5 compact, densely packed areas ranging from a huge sprawling bakery to the world's most poorly planned city. Uncover secrets and shortcuts in every corner of the world.
A strange, funny plot with a deep focus on humour and character writing. It gets silly. It gets serious. Really concerningly serious. Uh. Is the guy who made this game okay..?
To save the world, you must save yourself first. Find yourself again.
RUBATO contains flashing lights which may not be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy.
