Playing as Sumireko Usami, a high-schooler who visits Gensokyo in her dreams, you investigate an incident involving clones of Touhou characters known as Sleepers. You travel through Gensokyo and beyond to uncover what is happening.
Explore first-person mazes and face enemies in turn-based battles. To recruit Sleepers, defeat them in a bullet-hell sequence using Sumireko’s phone; captured characters can join your party or be turned into items.
Build your party by fusing Sleepers and developing their skills to meet new challenges. The phone’s battery is a resource to manage: a larger Sleeper party uses more charge, and running out cuts off access to Sleepers and the map.
Players often praise the game’s old-school first-person dungeon crawling, strategic turn-based battles, and the depth of collecting and fusing its large character roster. The Touhou setting, pixel art, and soundtrack also come up positively. Some reviewers find the maze gimmicks, frequent encounters, resource limits, or later sections frustrating, and several note that the story is relatively slight.
