Universe Sandbox is a physics-based space simulator where you create and observe celestial systems. Start with a star and add planets, moons, rings, comets, or other objects, or explore existing simulations.
Change bodies’ mass, speed, spin, position, and other properties to see how gravity affects their motion. Collide planets and stars, adjust planetary climates, or terraform worlds by changing their surfaces and materials.
Run simulations at different speeds to observe orbits, seasons, and other changes over time. You can also explore historical events and spacecraft, view astronomical phenomena, and share or download simulations through Steam Workshop.
Players often enjoy the freedom to build unusual star systems and test imaginative what-if scenarios, from orbital experiments to planet-destroying collisions. Reviews also value the simulation as a hands-on way to explore astronomy and understand cosmic scale, and some praise its visual presentation and ongoing updates. A smaller number mention that complex simulations can strain computers or that the controls take time to learn.
Universe Sandbox is a realistic physics-based space simulator that allows you to create, destroy, and interact on an unimaginable scale.
It merges real-time gravity, climate, collision, and material interactions to reveal the beauty of our universe and the fragility of our planet.
N-body simulation at almost any speed using Newtonian mechanics. Real science, real physics, no supercomputer required.
Epic, mind blowing collisions of massive planetary bodies that leave behind molten craters.
Start with a star, then add a planet. Spruce it up with moons, rings, comets, or even a black hole.
Watch sea ice grow and recede with the seasons because of a planet’s tilt - change the tilt and change the seasons. Or move planets close to a star and see the oceans boil away as the surface heats up.

Watch a supernova unfold by colliding two stars, cranking up their mass, or making them explode at your whim.

Hitch a ride with spacecraft including Juno and New Horizons, or view a total solar eclipse.
