Players take sides in an online multiplayer contest: a group of cowboys, called pardners, works to complete objectives and escape Wormtown, while one player controls the sandworm trying to stop them.
As a pardner, stay off the sand to avoid alerting the worm, then run, jump, climb, and use tools to navigate the environment and finish objectives. The goal is to make it to the train and get away.
As the worm, burrow quickly and use special abilities to hunt the pardners. Randomized map layouts, adjustable match settings, character customization, and challenges with cosmetic unlocks add variety between rounds.
