When ghosts steal the Golden Fruit from PAC-Village and free the ghost king Spooky, PAC-MAN sets out across PAC-LAND to recover it and stop him.
Run, chomp, jump, and use moves such as the butt-bounce and rev roll to navigate themed stages. Challenges range from ice skating in Snowy Mountain to swimming and aiming from the PAC-Marine in the ocean.
Stages, bosses, and optional challenges provide the main progression, with harder content available after the story. Back in PAC-Village, you can talk to villagers, change costumes, decorate with collected figures, and play arcade games and mazes; the game also includes time trials and a two-player mode.
Players often enjoy the colorful platforming, revised stages, and more varied boss fights, with many appreciating the mix of familiar elements and new content. Nostalgia and the expanded post-game also come up positively. Reactions are more divided on changes from the original, voice dialogue, and the difficulty of later bosses and time trials.
