Hell is an experiment you can't survive in Outlast, a first-person survival horror game developed by veterans of some of the biggest game franchises in history. As investigative journalist Miles Upshur, explore Mount Massive Asylum and try to survive long enough to discover its terrible secret... if you dare.

As investigative journalist Miles Upshur, you break into Mount Massive Asylum after receiving an anonymous tip about the secretive Murkoff Corporation. Inside the remote Colorado facility, you try to survive and learn what has happened there.
You have no weapons or means to fight back. Find your way through the asylum, sneak past hostile inhabitants, hide in shelters, and run when discovered. A camcorder with night vision helps you navigate dark areas, but its batteries are limited.
Explore the facility and record events with the camera while finding documents and notes that reveal more about the asylum and its secrets. The journey also includes pursuit sequences and obstacles to navigate as you search for a way forward.
Players frequently praise Outlast for making them feel vulnerable and keeping them tense, with the asylum’s dark atmosphere and sound design adding to that effect. Reviews also appreciate how the battery-limited night-vision camera shapes play and how notes and documents fill out the story. Some find the frequent jump scares, repeated chase-and-objective sequences, or short, linear structure less effective.
