Divekick is a fighting game built around two buttons and no directional movement. Players face off as fighters whose main attacks are dives and kicks.
Dive sends a character straight up, while a kick launches them foot-first at a downward angle; kicking from the ground sends them away from their opponent. A single hit wins a round, and the first player to win five rounds takes the match.
Each fighter has a distinct style, with different movement traits, kick angles, or special techniques. The game includes character stories and rival battles, single-player play, local two-player matches, and ranked and unranked online multiplayer.
Several reviewers enjoy the quick, absurd duels, especially as local matches with friends, and describe the minimal controls as leaving room for tense timing and mind games. Some also appreciate the distinct fighters and comic tone. Other reviews say the concept wears thin, and multiple reviewers criticize the state of online play or the grind for online achievements.
