Hack ‘n’ Slash is a puzzle action game about hacking -- reprogram object properties, hijack global variables, hack creature behavior, and even rewrite the game’s code. The only way to win is not to play...by the rules!

You play as a young adventurer in a kingdom where a wizard’s laws restrict exploration and control who may carry powerful weapons. Rather than accept those limits, you set out to challenge them and discover why the kingdom has changed.
Explore the world and solve puzzles using tools that let you inspect and alter the properties of objects and creatures. A sword can change object values, while magical artifacts let you adjust global variables; other equipment reveals hidden information about the game’s systems.
As you gain new abilities, puzzles expand into procedurally generated areas modeled on the game’s code, where you can alter the live-running logic. Puzzles can have multiple solutions, and the game includes a way to roll back changes when your experiments break things.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its unusual idea of solving fantasy-adventure puzzles by changing the systems that govern the world, especially as the tools expand from editing values to modifying code. Some also like its atmosphere and the sense of discovery. Other players find the puzzles difficult to interpret, particularly without coding familiarity, and several describe bugs or situations that block progress.
