Overgrowth follows Turner, a rabbit fighter drawn into a conflict with an empire that has taken control of a village. Across story missions, you guide him through a world of rival animal groups and dangerous encounters.
Move by sprinting, leaping, climbing, and vaulting through levels, then choose how to handle guards and enemies: sneak in for an attack, fight head-on, or make use of weapons you find. Combat combines kicks, strikes, grapples, blocks, and weapon attacks with physics-driven impacts.
The story content includes a prequel and additional campaigns. After missions, arena and sandbox modes let you set up fights or build levels with an editor, while community-made mods add more maps, characters, and other content.
Players who enjoy Overgrowth often point to its physics-driven melee, acrobatic movement, and expressive ragdoll impacts as the main appeal. Sandbox play and mods are also recurring highlights, while reactions to the story vary: some find it engaging, but others feel the campaigns are short or underdeveloped. Reviews also describe parkour and combat as rough or inconsistent.

| Multiplayer | Overgrowth supports local multiplayer. Store features list shared/split screen PvP and shared/split screen co-op, and Remote Play Together is enabled. Reviews indicate local play with two controllers, a versus mode, and co-op, while online functionality is unclear and may depend on beta branches or mods. |
| Multiplayer & mods | Mods materially affect multiplayer. Reviews mention a co-op mod and a full co-op campaign mod, and another review says some multiplayer options exist through beta branches or mods. Workshop and the integrated editor support user-created multiplayer content. |
