Set in 1954 San Francisco, the story follows Joe, serving a long sentence on Alcatraz for an armored-car robbery, and his wife Christine, who is free in the city. The stolen money remains hidden, while Joe’s former accomplices are also looking for it.
Play as both Joe and Christine, exploring locations, examining and collecting items, talking with characters, and solving puzzles to move their stories forward. Their separate situations call for different approaches, and some challenges involve sharing information or items between them.
Choices in dialogue and pivotal situations affect the plot and can lead to different outcomes. The story moves between Alcatraz and San Francisco, with locations and characters reflecting the game’s crime-noir setting and Beat-era backdrop.
Players who enjoy the game often point to its 1950s noir atmosphere, music, characters, and story, as well as the contrast between playing Joe in prison and Christine in San Francisco. Some also appreciate the choices and puzzles. Reviews are mixed on puzzle difficulty and pacing, while recurring complaints include broken achievements, bugs that can block progress, and stiff character animation.
