Monochroma

Monochroma is a side-scrolling puzzle platformer set in a dystopian, industrial world inspired by the 1950s. You play as a boy trying to help his younger brother through the journey.

Move through city and factory environments, climbing, jumping, and solving environmental puzzles. Some sections involve timing, physics, and crossing hazards or moving platforms.

Carrying your brother changes how you move, limiting your jumps, and he must be left in lit areas. The game tells its story largely through its environments, using a mostly monochrome visual style with touches of red.

Some players enjoy Monochroma’s moody industrial atmosphere, environmental puzzles, music, and concise journey, with the brother-carrying mechanic giving the platforming a distinctive constraint. Others find the controls and physics frustrating, and opinions differ on the pacing and story.
