After an otherworldly storm plunges the world into winter, you work for the Entity Containment Division, exploring abandoned facilities to repay the debt owed for your survival. A train serves as your base between dangerous trips.
Search maze-like locations for loot while avoiding hostile creatures and environmental hazards. Decide how far to venture before returning to the train to hand over your haul; hiding, staying quiet, and using available counters can help you survive.
Runs take place across changing locations with varied layouts and hazards. Endless, Nightmare, and Exploration modes alter the experience, while Escape mode tasks you with finding an elevator to the surface. A persistent character and wrist-mounted DataDeck carry personal and in-game information between expeditions.
Players who enjoy Forsaken Frontiers often praise its eerie atmosphere, sound, and frightening monster encounters, especially when playing with friends. Some also like its maze-like, changing locations and looting loop. Other reviews criticize the difficulty and enemy behavior as unfair, and mention bugs or limited control customization.
When an otherworldly storm descended in 1988, it brought something worse than cold. As civilization crumbled, the Entity Containment Division became humanity's final hope. Now you serve in their "workforce," venturing into abandoned facilities across America to repay the price of your survival. But beneath the howling blizzards and crackling radio transmissions lies a truth colder than the eternal snow.
