Ajay Ghale travels to the Himalayan country of Kyrat to fulfill his mother’s final wish, but becomes involved in a civil war against its ruler, Pagan Min. Players take Ajay through a conflict shaped by rival rebel leaders and choices about Kyrat’s future.
Explore villages, forests, and mountain terrain; take on missions and dynamic encounters; and fight enemy forces by sneaking, sniping, or launching a direct assault. Hunting wildlife, capturing outposts, and using vehicles—including a gyrocopter and rideable elephants—add different ways to approach the world and its conflicts.
Hunt animals for resources to craft and upgrade equipment, and earn skills as you progress. A grappling hook, wingsuit, and other traversal options help navigate Kyrat’s steep landscape. A second player can join in drop-in co-op to explore the open world with you.
Gameplay-focused reviews often enjoy Kyrat’s Himalayan setting, open-world exploration, and the freedom to tackle enemy outposts with stealth, weapons, wildlife, or elephants. Pagan Min and the range of activities also draw praise. Impressions of the story and characters vary, and some players find the familiar mission and collectible loop repetitive. Many sampled reviews chiefly complain that Ubisoft Connect or account authentication prevents them from launching or accessing the game.

| Multiplayer | Far Cry 4 supports online multiplayer features centered on 2-player co-op and a separate competitive multiplayer mode. The official description states a second player can drop in and drop out at any point to explore the open world together. Reviews consistently indicate co-op is limited to 2 players, is online-only, and generally does not allow main story missions; players instead explore the open world, capture outposts, clear fortresses, and do side activities. Multiple reviews also mention a separate 5v5 competitive mode called Battles of Kyrat. |
| Multiplayer & mods | One review mentions an in-game browser for custom maps and another mentions a map editor with user-created missions, but the provided information does not clearly state how these affect standard co-op or competitive multiplayer. |
