You play as an inmate whose goal is to escape from a series of prisons. Each facility has its own layout, security and daily schedule, which you can learn and use to find opportunities.
Attend roll calls and other routines, hold a prison job, train your attributes, and interact with inmates and guards. You can take favors, trade or search desks for useful supplies, while keeping contraband and suspicious behavior out of sight.
Combine items to make tools and weapons for your escape plan. Dig tunnels, get past barriers, disguise yourself or create a disturbance; different prisons offer different challenges. A prison editor also lets you build and share custom layouts.
Players who enjoy The Escapists often praise the freedom to devise their own escape plans and the satisfaction of making a plan work after learning a prison’s routines and systems. Crafting, the distinctive pixel art and soundtrack also recur as highlights. Some players find the trial-and-error learning curve demanding, and report that repeated routines or setbacks can become frustrating.
You’ve landed yourself in prison again, and your only chance is to engineer an escape by any means necessary. How you do it is up to you! Why not cause a prison riot? Or dig a tunnel right under the walls of the prison? Or even steal a guard uniform to blend in with your captors?
The Escapists is a unique prison sandbox experience with lots of items to craft and combine in your daring quest for freedom. Life in prison will keep you on your toes with the strict rules that you’ll have to break. The guards are out to stop any escape attempts, so you’ll have to avoid suspicious behaviour by attending roll calls, working a prison job and hiding your stolen craftables.
Escaping is what you do best, and you’ll have to prove your skills in a variety of challenging prisons from across the world.
