You play a young reporter who visits elderly explorer Alexandre Valembois at his lighthouse in France. Valembois asks you to continue his unfinished expedition to Amerzone and return the egg he took from the region decades earlier.
Explore the fictional land through a first-person point-and-click interface, turning your view across panoramic scenes and moving between locations. Examine the surroundings, collect useful items, and read documents that reveal clues about the journey and Amerzone's past.
Progress through a largely linear series of puzzles based on observation, objects, and mechanical devices. Travel aboard the Hydroflot, a craft that can move by air, water, and underwater; operating it involves managing fuel and entering coordinates.
Players who enjoy Amerzone often point to its mysterious landscapes, distinctive atmosphere, and reflective story about the white birds and Valembois's past. Exploration, the unusual all-purpose vehicle, and approachable puzzles also appeal to some, while nostalgia for classic adventure games is a draw for others. Experiences vary: many reviews describe the navigation and interaction as dated, with small hotspots and unclear next steps making progress frustrating.
