Set during the summer of 1943 around the Mius River and Saur-Mogila, the game casts you as a commander leading Red Army or Wehrmacht forces in large-scale operations. Its campaigns use historically based forces and battlefields.
Each operation has two phases: a turn-based operational map for shifting and concentrating troops, managing reserves, and resupplying or repairing units; then real-time battles where you issue orders, fight for territory, and engage enemy forces.
Combat incorporates terrain, visibility, weather, morale, and unit experience. Vehicles can suffer damage to individual components, while ballistic modeling, destructible terrain, and battlefield remnants shape how engagements unfold.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its detailed WWII combat simulation, tactical planning, and battles that can unfold in cinematic or unexpected ways. Several describe the experience as rewarding after learning its systems, while others find the learning curve and interface difficult to overcome.
