Keine’s Terakoya: A Schoolhouse in Gensokyo

From the Devs

In Gensokyo, sow the seeds of knowledge and pen the poetry of change! As Keine Kamishirasawa, guide the future of the Terakoya between tradition and innovation!

Gensokyo isn’t just about bullet hells and incidents—it’s also about the quiet, everyday work of teaching and the slow, steady march of change. In this unique simulation and management game set in the world of Touhou Project, you play as the wise and diligent Keine Kamishirasawa, running a Terakoya (traditional school) in the Human Village. However, the discovery of a fountain pen sets off a story of evolving educational philosophies, innovative stationery, and the clash between tradition and reform.

As challenges arise—resistance from conservative forces, financial hardships, and ideological dilemmas—you’ll need to decide where you stand. Will you hold firm to old ways or embrace the new, forging a unique destiny for your Terakoya and yourself?

■ Thoughtful Teaching, Strategic Scheduling

As Teacher Keine, your core task is to plan each week's (turn’s) curriculum for your students—be they human children, fairies, or other beings. But this is more than just scheduling; it’s a tactical challenge:

• The Art of Timetabling: Arrange classes in specific shapes to trigger Combo effects, granting powerful teaching bonuses!

• Use Your Tools: Deploy various teaching items or schedule special lessons to maximize students’ intelligence, emotional growth, and stamina. Every decision affects their development.

• Nurture and Send Off: Students improve according to your schedule. Once they meet graduation criteria, send them off into the world of Gensokyo. Not only is it rewarding, but it also earns the funds needed to keep your school running and growing.

■ An Immersive Gensokyo Experience

Running the Terakoya is no solitary endeavor. Gensokyo is home to many familiar faces from the Touhou universe:

• Build Bonds: Talk with characters, learn their stories , and improve your friendship levels through gifts and side quests. Strong relationships can bring help when you need it most.

• Trade and Supply: Teaching tools, daily necessities, and upgrade materials can be obtained through trading with Gensokyo residents. Maintaining good relationships may unlock rare goods or special deals.

• Feel the Pulse of the Community: Your school’s activity influences not only the Human Village but the entire Gensokyo. Witness the subtle changes as knowledge spreads.

■ Expand Your Influence, Unlock New Horizons

Your teaching performance and reputation translate directly into the Terakoya’s influence across different regions of Gensokyo:

• Earn Prestige: Excellent educational results are the key to growing your reputation. Influence is both a symbol of honor and a stepping stone to progress.

• Unlock Rich Rewards: As your influence in specific regions grows, you’ll unlock new features, attract more talented students, acquire rare recruitment scrolls, and even trigger new story chapters related to educational reform.

■ Upgrade and Customize Your Path

The development of your Terakoya is flexible and shaped by your choices. By investing resources into the Upgrade Tree, you can strengthen various aspects of your school and determine its educational philosophy:

• Strengthen the Foundation: Unlock upgrades that improve teaching efficiency, increase enrollment capacity, and reduce costs.

• Choose Your Focus: The Upgrade Tree is divided into three philosophies—Neutral, Innovation, and Traditional. Your investment in each path defines how your school evolves. Will you embrace modern ideas, preserve age-old methods, or forge your own balanced route? This not only changes your strategy but also shapes the game’s ending.
