Set during the Battle of the Atlantic, Atlantic Fleet puts you in command of either the Allies or the German Kriegsmarine. Your forces fight for control of Atlantic shipping lanes, escorting convoys or attacking them.
Combat is turn-based: maneuver ships, set torpedo courses, and aim and fire guns. You can command surface ships, submarines, carrier aircraft, and land-based aircraft, while damage can affect specific ship systems.
Choose from 30 historical single missions, create battles with the editor, or play 50-mission campaigns for either navy. The Dynamic Campaign spans 1939 to 1945, with limited resources, fleet building, historical units, convoy routes, and weather based on real-world conditions.
Players who enjoy Atlantic Fleet often praise its deliberate turn-based naval battles, the satisfaction of aiming guns, and its selection and presentation of historical ships. Some also appreciate that it is relatively easy to pick up and offers short standalone battles as well as campaigns. Reviews vary, with players also citing issues such as bugs, frustrating submarine combat, and difficulties with aiming or controls.
