We Love It's Guide to…

Friday the 13th: The Game

Set around Camp Crystal Lake and its surrounding grounds, the game casts players as either Jason Voorhees or a camp counselor. Jason hunts the counselors using tracking and other abilities, while the counselors try to survive long enough to escape or fight back. As a counselor, explore cabins for useful supplies and ways to get help. You can repair a car or boat, call the police, hide from Jason, or coordinate with other counselors; each route requires different items and choices. Counselors have distinct strengths and weaknesses, and Jason has different incarnations with varied traits and abilities. Character improvements and customization unlock through play, while changing match situations and item locations call for adapting your plans.

Play as Jason or a camp counselor: hunt, hide, scavenge, repair escapes, and try to survive each shifting multiplayer night.

Multiplayer The game is built around asymmetrical multiplayer. Official descriptions state one player can be Jason while seven players are counselors, for 8 players total. The text also indicates private matches exist, quick/public matchmaking existed, and the game supports playing solo as Jason in offline single-player modes against bots.
Multiplayer & mods Reviews report modded/hacked lobbies on PC that alter intended player counts and rules, such as extra counselors, multiple Jasons, respawns, and other nonstandard behavior. Community fixes and unofficial online/P2P methods are also mentioned, but these are not official features.
