The story follows a couple who become trapped in a mysterious, anomalous town and try to find a way out. You can play solo or in co-op, with a different version of the story for each mode.
Explore the town and its locations, look for clues, and face tests and riddles set by a mysterious character. The game offers little explicit direction, leaving players to work out how to proceed.
Survival centers on avoiding unsettling creatures rather than fighting them. Some react to whether they are illuminated, so managing your flashlight matters; in co-op, players can also protect their partner.
