In the cyber metropolis of Rengkok in 2091, you play a man whose brother has been kidnapped. Guided by a mysterious hacker, he fights through the city’s violent underworld and corporate forces in search of his brother and the truth.
Combat takes place in enclosed battle areas where you shoot, use melee weapons and dodge waves of enemies. You can pick up weapons dropped by foes and use abilities such as a shield, a dash, time-slowing and hacking enemies to fight on your side.
Earn skill points to upgrade abilities and reshape your build, with points available to reassign as you experiment. Between fights, visit a small city hub for conversations and side quests; the game also includes boss battles and additional challenge modes.
Players who enjoy RUINER often highlight its cyberpunk art direction, oppressive city atmosphere and electronic soundtrack, which give the game a strong visual and musical identity. Many also enjoy the quick, demanding combat, especially experimenting with abilities and adjusting their builds to handle different fights. Other reviews find the combat repetitive or difficult to read, and several describe the story as slight or predictable, so these strengths are not shared by everyone.
