Kate Walker, a New York lawyer, arrives in a small European town to finalize the sale of an old automaton factory. When the assignment takes an unexpected turn, she sets out across Europe to find inventor Hans Voralberg, the key to completing the deal.
Explore detailed locations, speak with the people Kate meets, and collect items to use on characters and mechanisms. Progress depends on observing your surroundings and solving point-and-click puzzles, many of them built around the world’s clockwork inventions.
Each stop adds to the mystery surrounding Hans and his journey, while calls from Kate’s life back home provide another thread of the story. The trip also challenges Kate’s practical outlook as a work errand gradually becomes a personal journey.
Players who enjoy Syberia often highlight its atmospheric, melancholy world, distinctive mechanical creations, and story of Kate’s changing outlook. The soundtrack, memorable characters, and puzzles woven into the locations also recur as points of appreciation. Some reviewers find the slow movement and stretches of backtracking frustrating, and puzzle clues or interactable items can be easy to miss.
