Recursed is a 2D puzzle-platform game in which you explore levels of rooms, collect keys, and try to reach a crystal. Chests act as entrances to other rooms, so the spaces you explore are also objects you can move.
Enter and leave rooms, carry chests between them, and use the way rooms reset or persist to rearrange the level and manipulate its contents. Solving a puzzle means tracking how rooms and objects relate, then working out a sequence that opens a path to the goal.
Across more than 60 levels, new mechanics add possibilities such as copying items or preserving rooms, while optional bonus puzzles provide further challenges. Movement and jumping support exploration, but the central task is reasoning through the changing structure of each level.
Players repeatedly praise the nested-room puzzles for turning a small set of rules into intricate, satisfying logic challenges, with solutions that can bring a strong moment of understanding. Some also enjoy the connections to programming concepts such as recursion. The difficulty is part of the appeal for many, though reviews note that losing track of room relationships can be taxing. A recurring frustration is the lack of an undo feature: mistakes can mean restarting and repeating a long sequence, sometimes alongside precise platforming sections.
