You need material blocks to repair items, you can find some while scavenging but recycling scrap is a great way to gain more. Break apart material clusters to recycle them.

While scavenging you will find items that are too damaged to sell. Replace the missing material blocks to repair them.

Sell your repaired items to unlock new items and upgrades.
