In a dystopian blood-sport league, you manage a hockey team made up of inmates. Recruit players and decide how to handle their training, diets, drug regimens, injuries, and recovery.
On the ice, pass, shoot, check, and switch players in fast arcade-style hockey. Fights can leave players injured or out of the match, giving the other team a numbers advantage; standard hockey rules such as offsides and icing are absent.
Franchise mode carries your team through a season as you develop its players and manage the risks of injury and mortality. Other ways to play include tournaments, exhibition matches, local multiplayer, and challenges with special setups such as uneven teams and manual goalie control.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its quick, chaotic arcade hockey, retro feel, and comic, over-the-top violence. Franchise mode is another recurring favorite: recruiting and developing a team, while risking injuries or deaths, can create memorable season stories. Some reviewers also enjoy playing locally with friends. Others find the AI and goaltending frustrating, and report that team-management chores can become repetitive.
