Take the role of one of Waterdeep’s masked Lords, competing to gain influence in the city through agents who carry out your plans. The game is a turn-based strategy adaptation set in the Dungeons & Dragons world, focused on political maneuvering rather than dungeon combat.
Assign agents to city locations to recruit adventurers, gather resources, take quests, and purchase buildings. Complete quests to earn points and rewards, while Intrigue cards can help your plans or hinder rival Lords. Building locations add new opportunities, and opponents can use buildings you construct.
Each game lasts eight rounds, with players taking turns placing their available agents and pursuing different ways to score. Points from quests, cards, buildings, and end-of-game bonuses determine the winner. Play against computer opponents or with up to five human players, either in real time or asynchronously.
Players often praise the game as a faithful digital version of the board game, with strategic choices, varied routes to points, and replayability. Many appreciate being able to play with friends online or practice against AI, though opinions differ on the interface, computer opponents, and online experience.
