The genre-defining military sim that began as Operation Flashpoint (2001), now a modernized, 64-bit, cross-platform build for Windows and Linux, with its engine released as open source. Over 2 million copies sold. The Cold War battlefield of Everon and Nogova, remastered for today's hardware.

Set amid a fictional Cold War conflict, the campaigns place you among soldiers caught up in fighting across the islands of Malden and Nogova. In Resistance, you play as Victor Troska, whose return to Nogova coincides with a new invasion.
Take on infantry and vehicle roles across large, open battlefields. Move carefully, choose positions, fight at range, and command a squad; missions also put you in control of tanks, helicopters, aircraft, and other military vehicles.
Campaigns and single missions offer varied operations, while a mission editor lets you create custom scenarios. The remastered build updates the original engine for modern Windows and Linux systems, adds controller support and an in-game mod manager, and restores an in-game multiplayer server browser.
In the supplied reviews, players often praise the tense, tactical campaigns, where careful movement and planning matter and mistakes can be costly. Many also value the freedom to replay missions in different ways, create scenarios in the editor, and install mods. Nostalgia is a recurring theme, and some reviewers welcome the remaster’s compatibility updates and open-source release. Others find the controls, visuals, and AI dated or frustrating.
Arma: Cold War Assault now runs on a modernized version of its original Poseidon engine: native 64-bit, Windows and Linux, support for ultrawide and high-refresh displays, full game-controller support, and a modern audio and networking stack, while it still plays exactly like the genre-defining original.
The engine is now open source
Bohemia Interactive has released the engine and game source code under the GNU GPL v3.0-or-later, in the spirit of id Software's classic source releases. Anyone can study it, build it, port it, and create with it. Game data and assets remain under Bohemia's Arma Public License Share Alike (APL-SA).

The horrors of WWIII are imminent.
There are clashes over the Malden Islands from dusk to dawn, and you are caught in between. You must use every resource in your arsenal to hold back the incoming darkness. Victor Troska came back to Nogovo, thinking the pain of war was buried in his past.

| Multiplayer | The game supports multiplayer over LAN and internet. Reviews describe both co-op against AI and PvP/versus play, including stock co-op and versus missions, custom multiplayer missions, and community workarounds such as OFPMonitor or direct IP because the original server browser is obsolete. The campaign is not clearly supported in multiplayer by default, but reviews mention that the campaign could be finished in multiplayer and that co-op campaign mods exist. |
| Multiplayer & mods | Mods and user-made missions materially expand multiplayer. Reviews mention hundreds of user-created multiplayer missions, co-op campaign mods, CTI variants such as MFCTI/CRCTI, zombie missions, and addon/mod use in multiplayer sessions. Online play may require community tools such as OFPMonitor or virtual LAN software. |
