Stubbs is a zombie on a mission in Punchbowl, a polished, retro-futuristic city modeled on an idealized 1950s future. Instead of fighting an outbreak as a human survivor, you play the undead threat spreading through the city.
Eat brains to replenish Stubbs, attack people with his body and bodily abilities, and turn victims into zombies who fight alongside you. You can also send his severed hand to possess a human and use that person’s weapons against their former allies.
The campaign takes you through a series of city areas with combat objectives and boss encounters. A friend can join locally as Grubbs in split-screen co-op.
Players who enjoy the game often point to its unusual role reversal—playing as the zombie and building a horde—as its main draw, along with its absurd dark humor and retro-futuristic setting. Nostalgic players especially enjoy revisiting it, while others praise the local co-op and soundtrack. Some reviewers find the combat repetitive or dated, and reports of PC crashes and freezes appear in the sample.
