You play as a medieval commander who fights on the battlefield while directing troops. Battles include team-based sieges and other objective modes, with open-world territory conflicts between groups also available.
During battles, you move your hero through the field, use weapon abilities, and give your units orders such as following, waiting, or charging. Different troop types have different roles, so positioning them and choosing when to engage are central to attacking or defending control points.
You can unlock units through unit trees and seasonal challenges, then improve them by gaining levels and equipping doctrines. Your hero also develops through weapon skills and equipment, while open-world play involves gathering resources and using siege artillery in battles for territory.
