Nightmare Reaper

You play a woman confined to a psychiatric institution, where her nightmares become dangerous places to explore and fight through. The story is lightly told through the campaign and its discoveries.

Combat is fast and movement-focused: fight varied enemies, search levels for weapons and secrets, and use a large arsenal of firearms and unusual weapons with randomized traits. Levels use procedural generation, and the game also offers arena and multiplayer modes.

Collect gold to unlock character upgrades and abilities through minigames played on a handheld device. Progression adds new options over time, while New Game+ and randomized weapons and layouts offer ways to revisit the campaign. You can also play cooperatively with up to three friends.

Players frequently enjoy the lively shooter combat, unusual weapons and randomized modifiers, and the variety these bring to repeat play. Many also praise the metal soundtrack and the upgrade minigames, though other reviewers find those minigames or the campaign’s later levels repetitive or drawn out.
