You play as an engineer traveling through the mysterious Void aboard a train that begins as a small handcar. The route follows rails between depots, with occasional places to leave the train and explore.
Collect floating materials with a grappling hook or by venturing away from the train, then use them to craft equipment, research upgrades, and expand and customize your moving base. Rofleemo companions can be assigned to tasks that help with train operations and resource gathering.
Explore depots, outposts, floating islands, and puzzle locations; fight soldiers and other creatures, take on arena encounters, and customize weapons with modular parts. The journey can be played solo or in online co-op for up to four players.
