Take command of the Darkstar One and follow story missions that carry you into new regions of the galaxy, introducing alien races, technologies, and stronger opponents. Explore star systems and search for ancient artifacts.
Artifacts let you upgrade your ship, which remains the same vessel throughout the game. Improve its components and plasma weapon, and use credits to buy equipment such as weapons and shields.
Between story missions, take on contracts and choose ways to earn credits, including trading, escorting, transporting cargo, bounty hunting, or piracy. Combat uses weapons and equipment such as rockets, torpedoes, and mines.
Players who enjoy Darkstar One often praise its story campaign, nostalgic space-game feel, and the progression of its single, upgradeable ship. Some also like the alien factions and space battles. Opinions are mixed: other reviews describe the sandbox activities as repetitive and the game as dated, while some report difficult missions or technical problems.
