Battlefield 3 is a military first-person shooter with a single-player campaign built around soldiers carrying out combat missions. Players fight on foot and take part in operations involving vehicles.
In multiplayer, teams battle across large maps in modes such as Conquest and Rush. Players can use weapons and gadgets, take control of vehicles including tanks, helicopters, and jets, and alter parts of the environment through destruction.
Players choose among four classes—Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon—with different specialties intended to complement one another. Battles award ranks, ribbons, medals, and unlockable equipment; the game also includes co-op missions.
Players who praise Battlefield 3 often point to its cinematic campaign missions and set pieces, as well as large multiplayer battles, maps, and gunplay. Vehicles, environmental destruction, and the sound and visual presentation also recur as highlights. Many reviews separately report difficulty launching the game through its EA app and Battlelog/browser setup, while some note that multiplayer servers can be sparse.

| Multiplayer | Battlefield 3 supports online multiplayer with large team-based PvP battles, server browsing via Battlelog, and expansion content that adds maps, weapons, vehicles, and game modes. The store metadata also indicates online co-op and co-op campaign support, and reviews repeatedly mention a separate co-op mode with missions for two players. Reviews also cite 64-player matches and active community-run/custom servers. |
| Multiplayer & mods | Reviews mention Venice Unleashed as a community launcher/mod platform that enables custom servers, mods, and bot play. Bot support is described by players as coming through mods such as fun-bots rather than the base game. |
