You play as a Valkyrie fighting to repel the forces of the underworld from Asgard. Your goal is to make your way through a series of dungeons and battle the enemies and bosses standing in your way.
Combat is built around the soundtrack’s beat: shooting, reloading, jumping, dodging, and using abilities all follow its rhythm. Enemies move and attack in rhythmic patterns, while weapons have distinct firing and reloading rhythms. Movement options include double jumps, dashes, rocket jumps, and bunny hops.
Each run takes you through randomly generated dungeons, where you collect weapons, abilities, and items that can change your approach to combat. You can choose from 10 characters with different strengths and weaknesses, and take on additional challenge modes. The game also supports custom music.
Players who enjoy the game often praise how satisfying it feels to sync shooting and movement with the music, and frequently call out the rock soundtrack. Reviews also appreciate the range of weapons, items, and character playstyles for making runs feel different. The challenge is a draw for some, but others find it punishing, and complaints about bright visuals and randomness recur.
