Set in early Edo Japan within the story of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, this stealth-strategy adventure follows Aiko as she confronts her former sensei, Lady Chiyo. Aiko is joined by four fellow assassins, each with a distinct role and abilities.
In isometric missions, scout enemy patrols and infiltrate camps and towns using stealth, distractions, traps, poison, or direct attacks. Aiko can disguise herself as a geisha, while her companions bring skills such as sword fighting, decoys, and ranged support. You can avoid enemies entirely and choose non-lethal or deadly takedowns.
Plan moves for the whole team and use Shadow Mode to carry out synchronized actions. The campaign includes three main missions and three shorter interludes, with three difficulty levels and mission challenges that encourage replaying with different tactics.
Players who enjoy the original often praise the careful stealth planning, flexible mission solutions, and satisfaction of coordinating the five characters’ different skills. Reviews also value returning to the cast and its relationships, and some appreciate the maps and atmosphere. A recurring caveat is that the campaign is short and changes little from the original, while opinions on the story’s payoff vary.
