Set in the American Southwest in 1881, the campaign follows bounty hunter John Cooper as he assembles a team to pursue the bandits behind a string of train robberies. You direct the six mercenaries as they take on missions such as infiltrating a fortress, rescuing a teammate, or escaping an ambush.
Play unfolds in real time from an isometric viewpoint. Watch enemy patrols and sightlines, then use the team’s distinct abilities and the surroundings to plan a route through each mission. Stealth and direct gunfire are both available approaches, though objectives may impose restrictions.
The campaign spans 25 levels across settings including towns, forts, mines, prisons, and trains, with changing conditions such as night and storms. Characters join the team over time, and training levels introduce their abilities before later missions put the growing roster and its tactics to use.
Players often praise the game’s Wild West atmosphere, distinct characters and abilities, and missions that reward careful planning and creative solutions. Nostalgia is a recurring part of its appeal, while some players also enjoy the challenge and the satisfaction of figuring out a level. Others find that challenge demanding because it involves repeated saving and reloading, and reviews frequently note dated or awkward controls and inconsistent enemy behavior.
